There comes a time in every bloggers life where they feel as if they're not on the top of their game. In part due to the fact that I have run out of material, and the fact that I will not be joining the crew this summer, I feel it is my duty to hang up the computer and move on to greener pastures. I hereby declare this post, just shy of our 200th post, my final post.
Unfortunately the future of this blog seems grim, and unfortunately it looks like it will also end with this post.
I wish all my readers and fans much love and happiness in the future. Keep on truckin' and stay classy...

The next item on the agenda, the purim seuda... the location of this years seuda is "still up in the air," but we will post it here as soon as we know.

I will be collecting Matanos L’Evyonim to be distributed in Eretz Yisrael over Purim.

Last year we had a very successful campaign, far exceeding expectations. To collect half of what we collected last year would be a tremendous blessing. Please help with whatever your heart desires.

ProjectRecharge 2.5: Motzei Shabbos and Sunday

With שבת just leaving us and our souls still flying high, the חברה gathered to say goodbye as some of עולם needed to head home. Once they left, the rest of the gathered in the living room and had a nice kumzits and rocked out for a bit. In the middle of the kumzits Popowitz broke the news of the impending snow storm which majorly bugged some people out. But all was good, everyone calmed down and eventually rocked out with some major Sohn jams and Bagel Cheese jams. Dani gave us a rendition of how Moshe Dayan lost his eye and told us about his friend Rold Gold and Tzidka's and Notorious G.I.D. taught us about "Taka U'Shbeit - We 'Aint Stopping". We learnt two new ניגונים, Keep On Truckin' written by the Apt. 41 gang and the L'Chaim Song. The jamming went on into the late hours of the night and we all retreated to our respectful corners of the house. While en route to their corner Dani and Tzidkas thought that it would be an amazing idea to slide down the stares on a spare mattress. The plan worked out well up until Tzidkas rolled down the stairs leaving the mattress behind (ask him to show you the battle scars.)

In the middle of the night MuLu and Sendy figured it would be best to leave as they felt that we were going to get snowed in - thanks again Popowitz for the bug out.

Anyways as the sun rose on our final morning in Lake Harmony we awoke and quickly cleaned the house and then decided it was time to pray. Ackerman led us off with Tzidkas finishing us off with a beautiful happy minyan. We ate a quick breakfast and cleaned the remainder of the house and packed all out stuff into the cars.

We said our final goodbyes and then it was time to head into the blizzard that would befall us on our journey back to civilization...

With the sun setting and שבת coming upon us we all gathered in the living room for קבלת שבת led by our cantor extraordinaire and principle, Josh "Buns" Silverman. After the completion of services we all gathered around the table and sat down for the סעודה which we had prepared earlier. During the meal it was announces that Dani's party, רעוּת, and Dan's political party, חזק, were combining forces to create a new political party name חזק רעוּת. The meal was completed with a טיש filled with beautiful ניגונים and a lot of candy. At that late hour it was time to call it night...

שבת morning we woke up and were graced with a שיעור from Rav Judah (מקומות can be found by clicking HERE). We then began davening שחרית led by Azriel Tzvi Tzadok Friedman which was on one of the highest levels most of חברה the has ever seen. As is the norm, שחרית led into קריאת התורה which was split amongst the עולם. It was suggested that on this Recharge the עליות be auctioned off. The items sponsored ranged from number of hugs to random strangers to number of bottles of wine for פורים. The big auction was for הגבה & גלילה, money to be donated to בני היכלא דכסיפין in order to help fund the writing of a ספר תורה. Each person's bid was his donation to this major project in the end it was the Brooks/Mutty team that sponsored the most money by donating $420. [Ed. Note: A list of all the donors can be found on the side bar of this blog, and if you are interested in donating please contact Rav Judah or Adam Friedman.] Davening was finished with מוסף which was led by Josh "Buns" Silverman at which point it was time to sit down to lunch as it was 2 PM and we were starving. At this point we realized we had run out of some essential items such as plates and cups and had none left for further meals. It was decided, solely by Azriel Tzvi Tzadok, that each person was required to save his cup from the previous meal and if he were to lose said cup he would have to pay a tax, the Save Your Cup (SYC) tax, to the ספר תורה to the fund.

After lunch there was a short break, where some of the guys decided to go for a walk around Lake Harmony and we were graced with another שיעור from Rav Judah (מקומות can be found by clicking HERE). At this time we davened מנחה and raised some more money for the ספר תורה fund. We sat down to שלוש סעודות and ate the remainder of the food and rocked out with tons of זמירות into the late night way past צאת. Jakie Berman made the ultimate sacrifice and ended his שבת at the normal hour in order to turn off the lights to enhance the mood. Late into the night it was decided that it was time to end שבת as some of the חברה had to get home, thus ending arguably the greatest שבת ever. ProjectRecharge 2.5: Day 2

The day started off with morning services led by Ari Ackerman, unfortunately he went against the נוסח of the עולם, but he heard all about it later on from Tzidkas. Once davening was complete the חברה ate breakfast and heard a short חבורה given by Rav Dan Wirzberger. Upon completion the חברה was told to put on winter gear as we were going to be spending the day outside in 10 degree weather. Rav Dan "conveniently" let a football and cones fall out of his car to make us think that we were going to be playing football but he had other plans for us. We set sail on a journey to the unknown, as is custom here on Recharge. We eventually arrived at Jack Frost Big Boulder where we learnt that we would be tubing. We tubed and played in the snow and then decided to play some flag football.

It was eventually time to head back to begin preparing for שבת. While out a few more guests arrived, including Tzidkas, Hertzberg, Rav Judah, Sendy Gross, Chatzkle Rapps, and none other than our very own Dani Kaye! who was supposed to be on the other side of the United States and not expected to join us. We bonded, cooked and cleaned the house in preparation for what was to be the greatest שבת in the history of the Jewish people.

The חברה set out from all different corners of the earth to head up to Lake Harmony, PA to spend שבת together. Once we all arrived at 307 Skye Drive we cranked up the BBQ and brought out the instruments. It was awesome seeing old faces but it was also nice to have some new faces for a change. "The Mike Sohn" led us with a couple of words of תורה and inspiration to get us off on the right foot. Mutty, Yakov Danishefsky and Jakey Berman (of Kollel Beaver Lake fame) led us in an intense kumzitz, while Principle Josh "Buns" Silverman, Josh "He's So Cool" Brooks and the אדמו''ר הזקן BBQ'd for the עולם. Food was served and music was played into the wee hours of the morning. But at some point it was time to call it a night as we had an early wake-up for the next morning and a full day of fun to look forward to...

Packing Up for Shabbos Recharge

When the Alter Rebbe was taken to S. Petersburg, the precise location of his cell, in the fortress of Petropavlov, was known only to his jailers. He remained there more than seven weeks -- exactly fifty three days. For the first three weeks he was kept under close surveillance, in a cell reserved for suspected traitors. In effect, one of all the testimonies against him alleged that he was collecting funds for the use of the Sultan of Turkey. Somewhat later, the Rebbe was granted more comfortable quarters within the same fortress.

Special tribunals, set up to investigate the charges against him, were in session during the entire period of the Rebbe's incarceration in Petropavlov. Then began the inquest. This was held, not in the precincts of the fortress, but at the headquarters of the Secret Police, and the Rebbe was ferried there across the River Neva.

The Rebbe was cross-examined by ministers of the government attending in person, and answered all of their questions in a lucid manner. The cross-examination was transcribed in its entirety, and the documents sent to the Senate for perusal. In this way the senators were able to form and idea of the Alter Rebbe's extraordinary intelligence -- and came also to recognize his purity of heart.

On Teusday, 19 Kislev, the Alter Rebbe was declared to be totally innocent of all charges.

The Alter Rebbe himself wrote of this memorable occasion:

" It is noteworthy that the day on which G-d dealt wondrously with us, 19 Kislev, the hillulah of our holy master [the Maggid], is the day [Tuesday] on which "it was good" was repeated twice [in Creation]."

"At the very moment that I was reading in the Book of Psalms the verse, 'He has redeemed my soul in peace,' and before I could recite the next verse, I was liberated in peace-by G-d, Who is Peace."

The Rebbe, R. Shalom DovBer, who proclaimed 19 Kislev "the Rosh Hashanah of Chasidus," wrote:

"My children, gather together, on 19 Kislev...and rejoice with the joy of the festival through whose advent our sould were redeemed in peace, and the light and vitality of our souls were passed down to us. This day is the Rosh Hashanah of the teaching of Chasidus, which were bequeathed to us by our saintly ancestor..."

"'This day is the beginning of Your works,' the true and ultimate purpose of man's creation on eath, which is to draw down the revelation of the light of pnimiut (lit. inwardness) of our holy Torah, which on this day, in a general sense, casts its radiance upon the entire year. Our task on this day is to arouse our hearts to an absolutely true and sincere innermost will and desire for our souls to be illuminated by the light of the inwardness of His Torah..."

As we started last year, we are hopefully going to start getting some more guest speakers to give שיעורים on various topics. This week we have the honor and the privilege of hearing from R' Yonason Zev Kirschner, a cousin of mine. Reb Yoni is a frequent visitor of this blog and states that his favorite post is the one of us dancing like idiots in the forrest. Hopefully, with his wife's permission, Yoni could join us at some of our gatherings and join us in spreading our light to the world.

Day 8: All Great Things Must Come To An End

As the final morning arrived, the boys gathered for one last 'hoorah' before we headed back to our respective homes and the real world. We prayed and ate our last breakfast in our headquarters for the last seven days, with Josh "Chip" Kirschner giving a חבורה to close out the meal. Then it was off to clean the house and pack up the cars for the long ride home. Adam "Bill" Friedman and Mutty "Bob" Shur gave the last two חבורות to close out the trip.

Over the last couple of days we've bonded, spread our light, and chilled, in Newfane, VT. As the saying goes "all good things must come to an end," the boys split up and headed in their respective cars for the long journey home.

At this point I'd like to thank 'the Principles' for planning and executing and amazing trip and to my fellow 'participants' for making this trip an experience not worth missing. 'Till next summer...

Day 7: When I Say Fog, You Say Buster

As the sun rose over Newfane, VT, the boys awoke for their last full day of this summer trip. As was the norm for this trip we packed up 'the General' for one last day of activities. Art was back to full strength and Josh "Freddy Haynes" Brooks presence was sorely missed. We got back on the road to the unknown, passing through a number of states eventually arriving in Connecticut. The guesses started flying horseback riding one person shouted from the back, while Milgraum guessed hot air ballooning. We eventually pulled into a heavily wooded area, and entered Matt's Outback Paintball. After multiple games of paintball were played, we were back on the road.

We got back on the highway, figuring we were heading back to the house, but we were wrong. As we were driving someone noticed that we had entered Massachusetts, and once again the guessing game started Sam Adams factory and Basketball Hall of Fame were some of the guess. But as we drove through the 'ghetto' are hope started to dwindle. After pulling into a shady parking lot and walking up 6 flights of stares in a broken down building we thought we had met our demise. But on the 6 floor we were greeted by beauty; large vats of beer belonging to the Paper City Brewery. After a quick tour and lesson on how to make beer by Jay, one of the owners, we were granted an opportunity to taste test some of the Paper City beers. The overall best Paper City voted by the חברה was their Fogbuster ale. It is safe to say that the חברה was in high spirits post this leg of the trip...

After all was said and done, it was time to head back to our headquarters to BBQ and relax for our last night in Newfane.

Day 6: 'Shipping Up to Boston'

The day started off with Dani "Timmy CC" Kaye rocking his beautiful janitors outfit, ready for what he though would be a day of hiking. There was a light drizzle in the air, so he thought he had the right idea. On our way to our destination we stopped at the local shady flea market, where there were 3 tents filled with garbage. There we started to lose R' Dan (Art) to a stomach bug. We reached a road block, having to turn around to drop him back at the house. Garth, starting his first day of full power, got us back on the road, to the unknown. After a 2-3 hour drive we reached Boston, MA. Guesses started flying... Basketball Hall of Fame, Red Sox game, tour of TD Banknorth Garden, Sam Adams factory. All wrong! After a short shpatzir, we met Chris of "Cashunt" who introduced us to our activity, a scavenger hunt around downtown Boston. We were split up into two teams, the Blazers vs. Nuggets (some how team bags and name tags were ready for us) and it was on. We were given a list of tasks to do that included taking pictures, making videos and finding hidden objects. There were strangers to meet and fools to make. Two hours later the scores were tallied with the Blazers coming out on top.

From downtown Boston we were supposed to head over to Harvard but had to pass due to poor weather and the fact that we were running late. Instead we headed to West Roxbury, MA to the קבר of the Rav. En route we said our goodbyes to Josh "Freddy Haynes" Brooks as he headed onto bigger and better things. After a few words on the Rav by Josh "Garth" Silverman we davened mincha.

From there we headed back to 'the General' where a vote was taken - should we head home for dinner or stop at a restaurant. In the end the restaurant crew won and off we headed to Brookline, MA to Jerusalem Pita. After waiting to get in, due to the fact that they lost our reservation and set menu, the boys sat down to a hearty meal of gentlemen. From there we headed on the long trip home, ending another amazing day on Recharge.

Election Day

For those of you who don't know, today is Election Day. Hopefully we all take advantage of our right and our privelege to vote. All of the bantering, promises, advertising and debates are all over. Now it's up to us as an American to head to your local polling place and pull the lever for the people who you think are going to do the best job of governing our country for the next few years. I know that the רֵעוּת party has my vote straight across the board...

Day 5: שבת!

Day 6, שבת, was rocking in Newfane, VT this week. After getting freaked out Friday night by our surprise "guests," the חברה awoke and davened שחרית under the direction of Adam "Bill" Friedman. The portion of the week was divided up by עליות and read by a combination of people. מוסף was led by Josh "Garth" Silverman and his beautiful ניגונים, which was followed by a short קידוש that led into a very filling lunch, that was filled with a lot of זמירות and דברי תורה . After lunch, as is tradition, multiple games of Mafia were played. As it was שבת no pictures were taken, but you'll have to take my word for it - it was amazing. After a quick rest, the חברה gathered for the afternoon prayers which led into שלוש סעודות which went way beyond the end of שבת (if it ever ends). Once it was decided that we should end שלוש סעודות, the evening services were prayed and we were led out by a beautiful הבדלה led by Rav Dan. As the night devolped more games of Mafia were played and more relaxing was had in anticipation of the week ahead.

Day 4: ערב שבת

With the חברה exhausted from the previous days activities it was decided that Day 4 would be a light one. We all packed up 'The General' and headed to an unknown destination. We crossed over the border into New Hampshire, our 4th state of this trip and arrive at a Wal Mart. We purchased some last minute items that were necessary for שבת and some other items that included funky hats, slingshots and snack for the remainder of the trip. After 2 hours spent in Wal Mart, we repacked into 'the General' and headed off to the side of the road to טובל before שבת. Ari 'Cod Fishman' Ackerman somehow lost his boxers and was left stranded in the middle of the water and Michael 'Richard' Kirschenbaum broke his fishing rod which he purchased on the previous day. We eventually made our way back to our abode to prepare for שבת and had a strong ריקוד as usual.

Then it was time to play the inaugural Michael Kirschenbaum Golf Tournament. After which Kirsch decided to have some fun, and some fun was decided to have with Kirsch...

Anyways it was a great, chill day to end off the week. We were highly looking forward to שבת and the remainder of the trip. שבת!

Day 3: I'm On A Boat

So back to the story of our journey this past summer. So where were we... O yea. After last years huge success boating, it was only a matter of time before we got back out there. Destination: Lake George, Activity: Boating and Tubing! The chevra at the boating place was very interesting, with their dirty jokes and all. The guy couldn't understand why we were 15 guys and no girls... I guess that's what makes us different.

1000 rules later we were out on Lake George, divided into 2 boats each led by a 'Principle.' While in the middle of the lake, everyone jumped off their respective boats into the beautiful water. Garth's boat seemed to be malfunctioning, as it was going 5 mph, so they headed in to find out why. On the way back in to get a new boat, their propeller crashed into the rocky shallow and got chipped, costing us $150. With their new boat and new propeller we were ready to go. While this was going on Art's boat headed off for the cliff jumping on the side of the lake. After Richard nearly died of dehydration and Art being peer pressured to jump off the cliff it was time to טובל. We called for the anchor, and it was thrown in, but the smart Jew who threw it forgot to tie it to anything, costing us another $100. On the way back in for the second time Garth's boat destroyed their 2nd propeller, costing us another $150 fine.

All in all, we met some interesting people, had lots of fun, and lost lots of money, 400 dollars in fines. Until day 4...

This is to be treated like the מצוה of ארבע מינים, and one should try to do the הידור מצוה and spend what he feels is necessary to fulfill this great ענין. Once again "the Principles" out did themselves when it came to our place of residents over the course of the trip. This years house sat on 45 acres, enough space for Kirsch to have his Inaugural Michael Kirschenbaum golf invitational, in the middle of Newfane, VT. With multiple fire places scattered around the house, a pool table, and a pool and jacuzzi over looking the Stratton Mountains out in the distance, it can't get better that this. We took major advantage of the media room in the basement and the surround sound system that projected music all around the house. The house also had a nice sized kitchen, where we prepared and ate all our scrumptious meals. Located not far from multiple fire stations so the אדמו''ר didn't feel out of his element, this house was something else...

Day 2: The Greatest Day Ever!: Part 2

Upon leaving the Ben & Jerry's factory we knew we had to stop somewhere for dinner as we were carrying our grill around with us all day. We drove around Vermont for another half hour until we reached the University of Vermont, when the guesses started being shouted out. "Hot-air ballooning" one person shouted out as we pulled in Centennial Field. "A soccer match" another shouted out, as we passed a soccer field en route to our final destination of the day, a Vermont Lake Monsters (Nationals) vs. Lowell Spinners (Red Sox) minor league baseball game. After getting permission to BBQ in the parking lot, pulling the "we are kosher" card, Josh "Chip" Kirschner fired up the grill (almost blowing his face off). You name it we had it - burgers, dogs, spicy dogs, chicken, condaments, chips, drinks. A quick but deep חבורה from Josh "Freddie Haynes" Brooks and a lot of food later we embark on a life changing night.

Upon entering the stadium, we were shown to our seats in the 1st row! From the get go we were ready to rock. It was decided to choose one player and make him "our guy" for the night. Too excited to wait we chose the first Lake Monster player up to bat, #5 the short stop Blake Kelso. The chants started with Adam "Bill" Friedman leading the way with "I say Blake you say Monsters...Blake-Monsters, Blake-Monsters!" The chants evolved throughout the night from chanting Blake to the tune of Gary Glitter's Rock and Roll Part 2,

to the famous Lubavitch niggun, Nyet Nyet,

which eventually evolved into the ultimate, a Mike Sohn chant.

And then it happened, a high fly fastball in the air behind home plate right too us, with Rafi "Gordon" Goodman making the snag, for the first of many times that night. Each time the חברה rallied in chanting "give it to a kid" in which each time Rafi was forced to hand over his souvenir to another grateful child. One of the lucky "ball-getter's" was a yid from Chicago who happened to have been visiting on business.

Another "ball-getter" was a little girl from last year's destination Willits, CA, who was visiting with her family. We found out later that they were yiddin too! השגחה!

As the game progressed we were granted the opportunity of a lifetime, a chance to support the University of Vermont's woman's hockey team by entering a 50/50 raffle. After Akiva "Dale" Milgraum bought multiple "arm's length's," we waited until the 7th inning stretch for the winner to be announce, but we fell short.

ּBut we didn't let that get us down, as we sang Neil Young's Sweet Caroline loud and proud, eventually earning us a shout out from the announcer later on in the 7th inning stretch.

As the game came to a close, with the Lake Monsters being defeated, we were offered free tickets to Saturday's game but proudly had to decline due to שבת. But we were granted a run around the bases and all received balls which were inevitably "given to a kid."

Jayson Hernandez, the catcher for the Spinners, Lazaro Gutierrez, the pitching coach for the Spinners, were kind enough to give us a shout out and a hat tip, respectively.

All in all an amazing action packed day was had by all, deeming this the GREATEST DAY EVER! With this man as the MVP! CHAMP!

Achdus: The Key to Rosh Hashana

Parshas Netzavim begins, “...אתם נצבים היום כלכם לפני ” – you are standing today, all of you before Hashem... The Zohar says that often when the Torah uses the word “היום” it is referring to a special day. Many say that the word “היום” here is referring to Rosh Hashana. The Toldos Yakov Yosef, Rav Yakov Yosef of Polnoye, a prime disciple of the Baal Shem Tov says that the Jewish people all stand together in front of Hashem on Rosh Hashana for judgement. He says that there is something special to אחדות on Rosh Hashana and that it helps in judgment. There is a Medrish that tells a mashal of a person being able to break one stick, but if you give that same person a bundle sticks he wont be able to break it. The same is with he Jewish people when we come together on the Yom Ha’din before Hashem. We are much stronger.

There is an amazing Sifri in Parshas Naso that I heard from Rabbi Baruch Simon shlita. The Sifri says that shalom (peace) is so great that even if there is avoda zarah amongst a group of people who have shalom, the satan cant attack them. But if they have machlokes than they will be blamed.

Hopefully we will be zocheh to go before the master of the world as one united people and be blessed with only good for all of klal yisrael.

Day 2: Greatest Day Ever!: Part 1

The first official morning was an early one - 4:45 am wake up! After quickly preparing breakfast and lunch we were on the road into the world of the unknown. All we knew was that it was a 2 and a half hour drive (thanks GPS) to our destination. After a long journey we arrived at a break in the trees along the road - Shacharis! People scattered into the forest and thanks to Vernnon's whistle everybody returned to form a quorum at the necessary time. After Timmy's beautiful rendition of the shofar blasts and a quick breakfast, we headed back into General Schroeder for the final 10 minutes to our activity for the day.

We pulled into Adirondack Extreme Sports in Lake George, and still not much was known in regards to what we would be doing. After finding out we'd be climbing some intense rope corse we were harnessed in and given wet bandit gloves, we headed out to the 5 course rope challenge. Each course got significantly harder, higher, and more challenging. With Bill leading the charge, people slowly started dropping out. 2 hours and 4 courses later we loaded back into 'the General' to return to the world of the unknown.

In the middle of our next drive we had to take a Car Ferry to get across Lake Champlain where some of gang hopped on along side Vermont native, Capt. Moe, in his pick up truck. While on the ferry Principle Art made a crucial error in protecting the sanctity of the secrecy of the trip. He picked up a Ben and Jerry’s brochure, claiming he wanted to “check it out,” This caused serious BUZZZZZ amongst the chevra. Everyone studied the brochure for highway clues and Bill even called customer service to find out if we had a tour…all dead ends.

As the drive went on, one of the chevra recognized a highway sign from the brochure and pandemonium erupted and the van exploded as we saw a sign for Ben and Jerry’s! As we rolled into the parking lot, music blasting and van shaking, the greeter was shocked and laughing. A tantz broke out… everyone could go home happy.

Dues were payed to our loyal flavors who were lost in the throws of battle. Ice cream was bought. And our tour awaited us…to be lead by Eli (pronounced E-lie). We watched them maked some macadamian ice cream and bag it, tag it, and sell it to the stores. And the best part of the tour, free ice cream.

Then we were off to the next part of our journey. Stay tuned...

Each member was stripped of his given English name and received a new name decided on by the members of Recharge as they entered the ProjectRecharge family. Ki Savo: Stop and Think

In Perek 27 Posuk 9 the Torah is dealing with Moshe telling the Jewish people to renew their commitment to the Torah going into a new phase of life. It tells us that Moshe, the Kohanim, and the Leviim spoke to all of Israel and said “ הסכת ושמע ישראל” – be attentive and hear. What is this word הסכת? The Sforno tells us הסכת means to conjure up a thought in your mind. Based on this understanding, we can now understand a beautiful Shem MiShmuel. The Shem MiShmuel says הסכת means that before you do a mitzvah, stop and think what you want to get out of it. Don’t just go through the motions. This is what Elul is all about. All the big things are in Tishrei, for example, Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, Sukkos, etc. Elul is the time to think what we want to get out of Tishrei. If we start the year like that, then we can maximize what we get out of the year.

We should all be blessed to maximize every moment throughout the year, and live life to the fullest. See you all in 51 weeks!

Day 1: On The Road Again

Day 1 of Project Recharge 5770 began with the חברה leaving via multiple cars from multiple locations. Each driver was given a list of destinations with no names of who would be found there. Each group was also given a final destination in Vermont with a time they needed to be there. The Hertzberg/Popowitz/Kirschner clan arrived first at the Newfane Elementary School where they were greeted by 'the Principles'. Arriving a short time after that was "The Beast" with its illustrious driver Milgraum with Kaye, Friedman, Brooks, Leor, and Mutty with שופר and other musical instruments in tow. Rounding Recahrge Part II was the Ackerman, Kirsch, Dylan, Rafi mobile. As per Recharge was kicked off with a sport... SOFTBALL!

After multiple games were played and Rav Dan taking out the fence in center field, we headed over to what would be our dwelling place for the remainder of the trip. Once everyone had claimed a room a BBQ dinner was prepared.

Then it was off to the night activity - the naming and welcoming of our newest members. Each member was given a name and required to perform a specific ritual as a way of initiation into the brotherhood. Overall it was a great day and a great way to kick off Recharge. I'm off to sleep, till next time holy חברה...

A Letter from the Principles...

Hey guys,

Hope everything is going great and you're getting excited for Project Recharge 2010. It's going to be an amazing 8 days - just a few things to wrap up as we make our last preparations:

As we did last year, we encouraged everyone to prepare a chabura/idea that has inspired them, deepened them or anything like that, that they will share with the group at some point of the trip. Everyone will have a slot to give the idea over and it should be anywhere from 0-20 minutes in length. As you already know, it's all good. Mike Kirschenbaum will give his chabura without pants on, so if that offends anyone, please speak up now. (No GTOD this year.) Additionally, we will try to have a very short idea given after prayer services, so if you want to contribute, please do.

Also, as is the custom, we will not be sharing schedules or activities with you but we do recommend a few things you might want to bring along. The only activity we will tell you about is that we will be playing softball, so please bring a baseball glove or 2. If you have a bat, please let us know. Bring swimming attire, scuba gear, diapers, goggles, floaties, skis/snowboards, muontain bikes, parachutes, paper airplanes, bowling balls... or anything you think you might need. Also bring any sforim you think might look good on tha table in the house.

We will be in contact with everyone to let you know how/when you will be getting to VT. We will be driving seperatly and meeting there, where we will park the car for the duration of the trip. We have THE VAN.

Ben & Jerry: Vermont's Finest

As was a staple of last years trip to NorCal, this summer we will be visiting the home state of Ben & Jerry's ice cream, Vermont. The Ben and Jerry's factory is currently located in South Burlington, Vermont, only 2 and a half hours from our HQ this summer. Not only that but one of the most popular flavors of Ben & Jerry's ice cream is Cherry Garcia named after Jerry Garcia who lived in San Francisco. As you see there are many connections between this coming summer and last. Either way we look forward to spreading out light in the footsteps of our forefathers, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, as we spread yidishkeit throughout the state of Vermont.

As some of you may have likely heard already, Zack was diagnosed with Lukemia and will be seeking treatment. We do not yet have much to share on his condition or prognosis, as full pathology results have not yet been provided, but we are very optimistic about his future and he is in a very strong frame of mind.

Regardless, individuals looking to do something the zechus of his refuah, should sign up on the blog listed below under one of the one, or many, of the opportunities listed. His name is Zecharia Kalman HaKohen ben Yael Margolit.

As some found out at the מלוה מלכה last מוש''ק, Dave Knoll "claims" he will not be joining us again this summer. This is would be tremendous loss for the entire gang. Whether or not we believe him is a completely different story. The Cheese Choker found this video and one might be able to use this as evidence as to what he's been up to and why he might not be joining us this summer. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens, as Keith/Shmuel pulled the same move last summer... Just minus the screaming mime...

Project Recharge Comes Out Victorious!

This past ערב שבת Project Recharge was challenged by the Stollel gang to a softball game. The PR gang led for most of the game until the final inning where the Stollel crew made a big comeback but fell short as the game expired. The Recharge game was victorious at last, winning the game 15 - 14. The Project Recharge MVP and game MVP went to Mutty "Bob" Shur. This game was also the welcome back game for Rafi Goodman and the debut of Ari "Chicken Hog" Ackerman as a member of Project Recharge. A fun day was had by all and we look forward to being victorious over the Stollel gang many more times in the future.

It seems that the accepted מנהג amongst our fellow bloggers is to take a break from blogging for the next couple of days, until after פסח is over. Normally I don't fall to peer pressure but I hear the argument and have decided to comply. So for the next 10 days us here at ProjectRecharge will be taking a little break from blogging. I know that there are certainly readers who are very opposed to this, (MKirsch), and feel like I haven't posted anything of "substance" lately so what am I taking a break from? But it's a decision that I have fought with myself internally for a while now and "banged the gavel." I hope this won't affect you're view of me or this blog in any way, shape, or form and we hope to continue providing more "exciting" material in the future. א גוט יום טוב and א גוט שבת.
